references like this will very often be between databases that form an instance of a multi-database application and are all placed together in the same directory. Relative URLs would simply bypass all of this complexity in that common case. See for example Database 'Notes/Domino 8 Forum', View 'Date (threaded)', Document 'Now this is an example of why notes is sometimes perceived as strange and ridiculous' or Database 'Notes/Domino 8 Forum', View 'Date (threaded)', Document 'Its the important special case of intra-application links that requires relative addressing'
